The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday that it will allow President Donald Trump’s administration to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for approximately 350,000 Venezuelans residing in the United States.
This decision overturns a previous injunction from a federal judge in California, who had blocked the revocation and upheld the TPS designation—which officially expired last month, according to the BBC.
TPS allows people from countries deemed unsafe due to war, natural disasters, or extraordinary conditions to live and work legally in the U.S. The status is temporary and subject to periodic renewal or termination by the administration.
This ruling marks a major legal victory for President Trump, who has consistently used the Supreme Court to advance his hardline immigration agenda.
The administration is also expected to revoke TPS for tens of thousands of Haitians in August, further escalating fears among immigrant communities.
