The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has withdrawn the nomination of Mark Brnovich as the next American ambassador to Serbia, according to a decision published on the website of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The reasons behind the withdrawal of Brnovich’s nomination have not been disclosed.

At the end of March, Trump announced his intention to appoint Brnovich as the U.S. ambassador to Serbia, stating at the time that Brnovich “would be a strong defender of freedom and would always put America first.”

The United States has not had an ambassador in Belgrade since January of this year, when Christopher Hill departed following Trump’s return to the White House.
