The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Jordan have initiated a new round of aid airdrops over Gaza. This effort comes as residents of the besieged enclave cautiously welcome reports of a temporary humanitarian pause, which is intended to allow food and medicine to enter the area.
Airdrops and Humanitarian Pauses
Israel has pledged daily 10-hour pauses in military operations in parts of Gaza “for humanitarian purposes,” stating that the creation of these aid corridors is meant to “refute the false claim of intentional starvation.”
Despite this, many Gazan residents are saying that the aid needs to be the start of a broader, sustainable solution to the deepening crisis. For months, Gaza’s population of more than two million has faced extreme shortages of food, clean water, and basic medical supplies due to constant bombardments and border closures.
