The British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, has expressed deep concern over the recent death threats directed at President Vjosa Osmani.

He emphasized that gender-based violence, including online abuse, has no place in society.

The ambassador made the statement after sharing the reaction of UN Women Kosovo and the Security and Gender Group, who strongly condemned the threats against Osmani.

“I am deeply concerned by the recent threats and rising wave of hate speech directed at women, especially those in leadership roles. Gender-based violence – including that which takes place online – has no place in our society. We stand with the Security and Gender Group and fully support their joint statement. In times like these, silence is not an option. We choose solidarity,” Hargreaves said.

He also quoted UK Minister Jess Phillips, stating:

“Nothing will change unless we make it systematic that everyone who encounters a victim or a perpetrator sees it as a core duty to act.”

Kosovo Police have confirmed that a criminal case has been initiated regarding the threats sent via the official email address of the Presidency. President Osmani has reportedly received several threatening messages in recent days.
