During his visit to the United Arab Emirates, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized to Gulf allies that Iran should not hold the Strait of Hormuz as a strategic hostage. He reiterated the UK’s consistent stance on the conflict, calling for de-escalation and a sustainable ceasefire.
Starmer stressed that nations must work together to find a solution ensuring safe and open passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also highlighted on Thursday that restoring freedom of navigation in the Strait is vital for Italy and the European Union. She pledged to collaborate with partners to achieve this goal.
“We are already working with the UK-led coalition on the Strait of Hormuz, which includes over 30 countries, to establish security conditions that allow full restoration of freedom of navigation and supply,” Meloni stated.
