UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Wednesday condemned the rise of anti-Muslim hate, calling it “disgusting” and stressing that such incidents must be urgently addressed.

Anti-Muslim hate is disgusting and has no place in our society,” Starmer said during the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions session in the House of Commons.

His remarks came in response to a question from Labour MP Afzal Khan, who asked the Prime Minister to outline what steps the government will take to combat the rising levels of racism and Islamophobia targeting Muslims across the United Kingdom, Anadolu Agency reports, as relayed by KosovaPress.

These increasing incidents must be addressed, which is why we are increasing funding to protect mosques and Muslim religious schools across the country,” Starmer said.

He also reiterated that the new fund will be used to monitor anti-Muslim hate, adding that his government continues to work on developing an official definition of anti-Muslim hatred. His comments come as November marks the Islamophobia Awareness Month (IAM) in the UK.
