Kyiv has accused Moscow of committing a “war crime” on Sunday after Russian drones targeted a military hospital in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, during a wave of overnight attacks. The strikes also hit a shopping center, residential buildings, and other targets, leaving at least two people dead, according to authorities.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army accused Russia of “violating international humanitarian law” in this attack, condemning it as a “deliberate and targeted bombing.”
Among the victims were military personnel being treated at the medical center, according to officials.
An hour before the attack in Kharkiv, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Kyiv expects a strong response from Western countries to Russia’s nearly daily attacks on its territory.
“Our partners must understand clearly: These attacks are not only attacks on Ukrainian civilians but also on all international efforts—on the diplomacy we are trying to use to end this war,” Zelensky said in his daily video address.
In addition to the attacks in Kharkiv, Ukrainian authorities reported that Russia launched a ballistic missile and deployed drones as part of a barrage of strikes that also hit the cities of Dnipro, Krivi Rih, and Poltava.
