On March 11, 2025, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, under the hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the United States and Ukraine took significant steps toward establishing sustainable peace for Ukraine.
Ukraine expressed its willingness to accept the US proposal for an immediate and temporary 30-day ceasefire, which could be extended by mutual agreement, depending on reciprocal acceptance and implementation by the Russian Federation.
A joint statement released by both sides clarified that the United States would communicate to Russia that its reciprocity is key to achieving peace.
The announcement also revealed that the United States would immediately lift the suspension of intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.
Both delegations agreed to appoint their negotiating teams and immediately begin talks for a lasting peace that ensures Ukraine’s long-term security. The United States pledged to discuss these specific proposals with representatives from Russia.
The Ukrainian delegation reiterated that European partners would be involved in the peace process.
Lastly, the presidents of both countries agreed to swiftly conclude a comprehensive agreement for the development of Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand its economy and ensure its long-term well-being and security.
Both delegations praised the courage of the Ukrainian people in defending their nation and agreed that now is the time to begin a process toward permanent peace.
The Ukrainian delegation emphasized its deep gratitude to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and the American people for enabling meaningful progress toward peace.
Discussions also focused on the importance of humanitarian efforts as part of the peace process, particularly during the aforementioned ceasefire, including the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of detained civilians, and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children.
