Ukraine announced on Tuesday that it successfully executed a complex military operation to strike the Crimean Bridge, the vital link connecting Russia to Crimea. The operation, conducted by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU), involved underwater sabotage targeting the bridge’s submerged pillars over several months.
According to the SBU, the attack involved planting explosives equivalent to over 2,400 pounds of TNT, which caused severe damage to the bridge’s support system underwater. The first explosion detonated early Tuesday morning. Officials emphasized that no civilians were harmed during the operation.
This marks the third major strike on the Crimean Bridge by Ukraine in the ongoing conflict. Lieutenant General Vasyl Maliuk, leading the operation, stated on Telegram that the bridge is a “legitimate target” since it serves as a crucial logistical artery used by Russian forces.
Meanwhile, Ukraine faced another brutal assault the same day. President Volodymyr Zelensky shared videos showing devastation in the northeastern city of Sumy, where three people were killed and many injured after a Russian rocket artillery attack deliberately targeted civilians. Zelensky condemned the strike as a “savage attack” on ordinary city streets.
