Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has shared further details about tripartite talks between the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia held last weekend in Abu Dhabi.

Zelensky discussed the meeting with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker during a phone call this morning, noting that the talks primarily focused on military issues but also addressed security guarantees in the United Arab Emirates, according to Telegrafi.

“Ukraine’s membership in the European Union is one of the main security guarantees, not just for us, but for all of Europe,” Zelensky said.

He added:

“This is why we are discussing a specific date — 2027 — and we rely on the support of our partners to uphold our position.”

Official EU accession negotiations can only begin with the unanimous consent of all 27 member states, which has proven challenging for Ukraine due to resistance from Hungary under Viktor Orbán.
