Ukraine’s Air Force claims to have tricked Russian forces into striking fake versions of Ukrainian fighter jets and air defense systems.
The Air Force Commander, Mykola Oleshchuk, stated that the fake models were deployed at an airport near the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih and a neighborhood in Odesa.
He also shared footage filmed by a drone, which he said showed Russian Iskander missiles attacking the models.
The Russian Ministry of Defense had shared similar footage, claiming that the Russian military used Iskander missiles to destroy a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet at the Dovhyntseve airport, according to Sky News.
“Thanks to everyone who helped with the high-quality models of aircraft and SAM systems. The enemy now has fewer Iskander missiles,” said Oleshchuk.
“Of course, both we and the enemy have losses in equipment and personnel. But neither side speaks about this publicly. It is clear why,” he added.
It is known that Ukraine rarely shares such information, but the commander said that this time there are exceptions “to show people that not everything is as it seems.”
Recently, Russian attacks left more than 100,000 families without power in Ukraine’s Sumy region.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy said that the infrastructure was damaged by the attacks and that they also disrupted the water supply.
