Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has carried out a successful strike on two Russian Su-27 fighter jets at the Belbek air base in occupied Crimea, delivering a significant blow to Russia’s air capabilities in the region.
Targeted Strike on a Fortified Military Base
The operation demonstrates Ukraine’s ability to conduct precise, high-impact strikes even within heavily fortified and occupied territories. According to available information, one of the Su-27 aircraft was fully armed and ready for a combat mission at the time of the attack.
That aircraft was completely destroyed, eliminating it from any future military use.
Severe Damage and Strategic Losses
The second fighter jet sustained serious damage, rendering it non-operational.
The total value of the two Su-27 fighter jets is estimated at approximately $70 million, representing a major financial and strategic loss for Russian forces operating in Crimea.
Impact on Russian Air Operations
The strike underscores Ukraine’s continued efforts to degrade Russia’s military infrastructure and limit its ability to conduct air operations from occupied Ukrainian territory.
