On Friday, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister visited India for pivotal discussions aimed at deepening the cooperation and fortifying the bilateral ties with New Delhi, a nation that has shared a historical alliance with Russia since the Cold War era.
During the talks, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar expressed on the social media platform X that he and Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba delved into “the ongoing conflict and its broader implications,” highlighting their commitment to enhancing the relationship between their nations.
Kuleba, reflecting on the longstanding friendship between India and Ukraine, emphasized the potential for further collaboration. “While we value our traditional friendship, there’s a vast scope for doing more in favor of our countries and the global stability and development framework,” he stated on Friday. He expressed optimism about rejuvenating the ties that were affected following Russia’s significant military intervention in Ukraine.
In conversations with the Indian press on Thursday, Kuleba expressed his intentions to promote Ukraine’s peace initiative and to advocate for India’s elevated involvement in resolving the conflict instigated by Russia in Ukraine.
Highlighting India’s critical position, Kuleba noted in an interview with New Delhi Television, “India holds a key role in uniting more countries from the Global South,” attributing this influence to its close ties with Russia. “India’s unique relationship with Russia could sway Moscow’s actions,” he observed, while also acknowledging that India’s bond with Moscow reflects historical ties, whereas its relationship with Ukraine harbors potential for future development.
