Russian bombardments in Ukraine killed four people on Saturday, officials said. A Ukrainian drone attack set fire to a Russian fuel depot as both countries exchanged drone strikes.
Two people lost their lives in the partially occupied Kherson region of Ukraine, and two others were injured in the attack near the regional capital, said Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.
Two other people died Saturday afternoon, and 22 others were injured in the northeastern Ukrainian region of Kharkiv, according to Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
A Ukrainian drone strike deep within Russia’s Rostov region hit a fuel depot in the early hours of Saturday, the latest long-range strike by Kyiv into a border region.
In recent months, Ukraine has increased air strikes within Russian territory, targeting refineries and oil terminals in an effort to slow down the Kremlin’s war machine.
The Russian military is attempting to advance along the front line in eastern Ukraine, while a shortage of troops and armaments has weakened Ukrainian defenses.
Rostov Governor Vasily Golubev said the Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire over an area of about 200 square meters, but there were no casualties. About five hours later, he announced on Telegram that the fire was extinguished. Russia reported shooting down two Ukrainian drones overnight in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. Ukrainian forces said they eliminated four Russian drones overnight, while another headed towards Belarusian territory./VOA
