Another senior Russian military officer has been killed in the ongoing war in Ukraine. Reports indicate that Colonel Sergei Ilyin, commander of the 155th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, has lost his life in combat.
The news was first reported by the independent Russian Telegram channel Astra, citing a now-deleted post from local authorities in the colonel’s hometown.
According to The Moscow Times, Ilyin died during what Russian officials continue to call a “special military operation” in Ukraine. A photo from his funeral, shared by Astra, reveals his birth and death dates: November 26, 1985 – July 2, 2025.
On July 2, a Ukrainian missile strike targeted the southwestern Russian region of Kursk, reportedly killing 11 senior Russian officers, including Russian Navy Deputy Commander Mikhail Gudkov. Colonel Ilyin is believed to have been among them.
The Russian authorities have yet to officially confirm Ilyin’s death. However, their silence and the deletion of local posts have only fueled suspicions about the truth of the report.
