Russia has been hit by one of the largest drone air attacks since the start of the war in Ukraine. Overnight and into this morning, over 90 drones targeted various military and industrial objectives across several internal regions of the country.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, a total of 94 drones were shot down, but a number of them successfully struck significant strategic targets.

Key Targets Hit Across Russia

  • Voronezh – Ukrainian Defense Forces struck a weapons depot at Borisoglebsk military airport, reportedly containing guided bombs. Local authorities reported no casualties, but the surrounding buffer zone is now considered unsafe.
  • Cheboksary – Two drones crashed into the “VNIIIR-Progress” defense factory, which produces “Kometa” antennas. These devices are used to protect Russian drones against Ukrainian electronic systems. Material damages are significant.
  • Leningrad – Two drones were shot down over the Leningrad region, but the incident led to immediate consequences for air transport. Pulkovo International Airport in St. Petersburg reported over 50 delays and 13 canceled flights.
  • Saratov and Engels – Fragments of a downed drone caused damage to several residential buildings. Meanwhile, residents reported explosions near the Engels air base, a key facility for Russia’s strategic aviation.
  • Moscow – The capital’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, stated that two drones were neutralized as they approached the city’s suburban area. No casualties or material damages were reported.

This marks the most extensive attack of its kind since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, demonstrating the increasing capacity of Ukrainian aerial attacks deep within Russian territory.
