Ukrainian special forces have carried out a successful drone strike deep inside Russian territory, destroying two Russian SU-34 fighter-bombers at the Marinovka airbase in the Volgograd region, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced.

The long-range drone attack, launched overnight, ignited a fire at the site where the aircraft were serviced and repaired, reportedly causing damage to critical infrastructure.

“Together with our brothers-in-arms, we continue working to weaken the aviation component of the Russian military,” the SBU stated.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff emphasized the strategic significance of the strike:

“The Russian Su-34s are the main tactical aircraft used for rocket and bomb attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements. These aircraft are classified as frontline fighter-bombers by the Russian Aerospace Forces and are primarily used to drop precision-guided bombs, including those with glide and correction modules.”

This operation marks yet another Ukrainian effort to push the war inside Russia’s borders, targeting military assets that have played a key role in the aerial bombardment of Ukraine.
