Ukraine has carried out an attack on the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia’s Tambov region, according to sources from the Ukrainian military intelligence service (GUR). This marks the fifth Ukrainian strike on the pipeline that supplies Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia.
Despite other EU countries cutting energy ties with Russia after the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Hungary and Slovakia continue to receive energy supplies from Moscow, according to Reuters.
Ukrainian media reported that the attack involved remotely detonated explosives, while the Slovak pipeline operator and the Hungarian oil and gas company stated that Druzhba pipeline deliveries are continuing normally. Russia has not issued any comment.
Earlier in 2025, Ukraine struck the pipeline once in March, twice in August, and once in September. Kyiv maintains that such strikes against energy infrastructure are retaliatory measures aimed at undermining Moscow’s ongoing military efforts against Ukraine.
