Following Ukraine’s strike on Russian military airbases on June 1, former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has declared that Kremlin’s retaliation is “inevitable.”
“For all those who are worried and expect revenge – you should be worried: it’s a normal human reaction. Revenge is inevitable,” said the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council in a Telegram post.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned Russia’s latest raid in Sumy, stating, “They attacked to target civilians.”
In the latest round of direct peace talks in Istanbul, the Russian delegation has reportedly made a series of very harsh demands – even for a basic ceasefire.
To halt the war, Russia is demanding that Kyiv withdraw its troops from the four partially occupied regions, handing them over to Moscow’s forces – or alternatively, demobilize and end all foreign military assistance.
Zelensky has responded by urging Donald Trump to approve new sanctions against Russia to “force” it to stop the fighting. According to the White House, the U.S. president is open to Turkish President Erdoğan’s invitation to host trilateral peace talks in Turkey with the Russian and Ukrainian leaders.
