The UN General Assembly has adopted a key resolution aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reaffirming commitment to a two-state solution. The vote concluded with 142 in favor, 10 against—including Israel and the United States—and 12 abstentions.
Albania abstained, maintaining a neutral stance in line with its previous positions in international forums regarding the Palestinian issue.
The resolution, titled the “New York Declaration on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Issue and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution,” explicitly condemns Hamas for attacks on civilians on October 7 and calls for the surrender of weapons and the end of its rule in Gaza.
The text emphasizes:
“In the context of ending the conflict in Gaza, Hamas must end its rule in Gaza and transfer its weapons to the Palestinian Authority, with international commitment and support, in line with the objective of a sovereign and independent Palestinian state.”
