A pivotal moment as international pressure mounts to halt the humanitarian crisis

The United Nations Security Council is set to vote today on a new resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, alongside unrestricted humanitarian aid access to the war-torn region.

The proposed resolution urges all parties to unconditionally cease hostilities, aiming to prevent further escalation of the deepening humanitarian catastrophe.

It also demands the “immediate, dignified, and unconditional release” of all hostages held by Hamas and other armed Palestinian factions.

US vote under global scrutiny

This marks the first UNSC vote on the Gaza conflict since November 2024, when the United States vetoed a similar draft resolution calling for a halt to fighting.

The upcoming vote is scheduled for 4:00 PM local time in Kosovo (CEST), and international attention is focused on the U.S. position, which could determine the fate of the resolution.
