The United Kingdom has reiterated its support for political stability in Kosovo, emphasizing the need for a strong and durable government following the upcoming early parliamentary elections. The message was delivered today by the UK Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, after his meeting with the President of the Constitutional Court, Nexhmi Rexhepi.

Ambassador Hargreaves stated that he hopes Kosovo’s political parties and elected MPs will act in full respect of the Constitution so that the country can swiftly restore effective governance.

“Today I met the President of the Constitutional Court, Nexhmi Rexhepi. We discussed the recent developments that are affecting Kosovo’s state institutions,” the ambassador wrote, underscoring the importance of constitutional order during times of political uncertainty.

Kosovo Heads Toward Early Elections

The call from the United Kingdom comes as Kosovo prepares for extraordinary parliamentary elections on 28 December, declared by President Vjosa Osmani. The announcement followed the dissolution of the Assembly, which failed to elect a new government after the parliamentary elections held earlier this year on 9 February.

The United Kingdom remains one of Kosovo’s strongest allies and has consistently emphasized the importance of stable institutions, rule of law, and democratic continuity.
