Acting Minister of Justice Blerim Sallahu reacted following the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the draft law for the State Bureau for Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Assets.

In a Facebook post, Sallahu described the process as delayed and harmful to the fight against corruption. According to him, the ruling was issued after 1 year and 28 days, far exceeding the legal deadlines.

“It is unlawful, unprofessional, and unethical for such an important law—aimed at combating crime and corruption among public officials—to remain in the drawers of the Court for over a year for mere procedural issues,” Sallahu wrote.

Full Statement by Sallahu:

After 1 year and 28 days, we received the Constitutional Court’s decision regarding the draft law for the State Bureau for Verification and Confiscation of Unjustified Assets.

The Court, after exceeding legal deadlines, found procedural violations in the approval process of the draft law in the Assembly and has therefore returned it to the Assembly for approval.

It is unlawful, unprofessional, and unethical for a law of such importance in combating crime and corruption among public officials to remain shelved in the Court for more than a year over procedural matters!

Such delays undermine the exclusive constitutional competencies of the Government and the Assembly in enacting laws.

Ultimately, despite obstacles from actors with certain intentions, the confiscation of unjustified assets will begin this year!
