The Rector of the University of Prishtina, Arben Hajrullahu, has raised serious concerns about the risk of closure of the Faculty of Agriculture, blaming the occupation of university property by the energy company KEDS and the failure to operationalize the new building since 2013.
The Faculty of Agriculture building on the UP campus, constructed in 2013 with millions of euros from taxpayers, has yet to be made functional. Without access to the building, the faculty faces a serious risk of losing accreditation and possible closure.
Hajrullahu accused KEDS of occupying university property by installing tents, storage facilities, and high-voltage power lines over the building. He said that the university had formally requested the removal of the power lines, but these requests were ignored.
Currently, students and staff are distributed across multiple buildings, making academic operations unstable and unsafe.
The Rector announced that if the situation is not resolved within the next week, the University will take strong measures:
- removing KEDS storage facilities from university property,
- staging a protest and blocking KEDS’s access to their central offices, together with professors and students.
Hajrullahu emphasized that KEDS is not the only entity infringing on university property. He mentioned private businesses, including Lesna and Jonamed, warning them not to repeat the same actions.
