An urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is currently taking place in New York to address the escalating situation in the Middle East.

Miroslav Jenča, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Europe, Central Asia, and the Americas, warned that the people of the State of Palestine are in “grave danger.”

He stated that Israel’s newly approved five-point plan, passed on Thursday, represents “another dangerous escalation of the conflict.”

“We are already witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe on an unimaginable scale,” Jenča said, reiterating calls for a full and immediate ceasefire.

“Palestinians have the right for their voices to be heard,” he concluded.
