European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen began her official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina with a visit to the Srebrenica Memorial Center.

She arrived in Potočari by helicopter, accompanied by EU Delegation Chief Luigi Soreca, Srebrenica Memorial Center Director Emir Suljagić, Board Chairman Hamdija Fejzić, and activist Munira Subašić.

Von der Leyen visited the cemetery in Potočari and paid her respects to the victims of the genocide.

“In doing so, von der Leyen symbolically reaffirmed Europe’s commitment to the culture of remembrance and human rights,” reported Vjesti.ba.

Later in the day, the European Commission President will travel to Sarajevo, where she will meet with the members of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, followed by a meeting with the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers, Borjana Krišto.

The visit will also include joint press statements, which von der Leyen and Krišto are expected to deliver after their bilateral meeting at the Parliamentary Assembly building.

During these meetings, von der Leyen is expected to emphasize the importance of accelerating reform processes, strengthening institutional stability, and taking concrete steps toward meeting key criteria for European Union membership.
