The US and Japan have agreed to expand the production of Patriot missile systems.
US-manufactured Patriot missile systems have exceeded expectations in Ukraine, forming a critical part of Ukraine’s air defense.
The Patriot system is a ground-based, surface-to-air missile battery capable of intercepting targets ranging from aircraft to missiles and drones.
According to foreign media, recent high-level defense talks in Tokyo provided additional ways for the US to supply Patriot assets to Ukraine through its Japanese ally.
The US-Japan Security Consultative Committee issued a joint statement after the talks, committing to “high-priority efforts” to produce more ammunition for Patriots.
The statement also noted ongoing work to transfer existing Patriot munitions from Japan to the US, which, in turn, could “free up” reserves for Ukraine.
