Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng is set to meet with a US delegation next week in the United Kingdom for a new round of trade talks, according to a statement by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He Lifeng will be in the UK from June 8 to 13, at the invitation of the British government. During this visit, he will co-chair the first meeting of the US-China Economic and Trade Consultation Mechanism alongside American representatives.

US President Donald Trump confirmed Friday that the upcoming US-China trade negotiations will take place on Monday in London, aiming to reach an agreement amid the ongoing customs and tariff disputes between the world’s two largest economies.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said the US delegation will include:

  • Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent
  • Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick
  • White House Trade Representative Jamieson Greer

This marks the second meeting between US and Chinese trade officials since Trump’s return to the White House. The first round, held in mid-May in Geneva, helped temporarily ease tensions caused by newly imposed tariffs.

However, tensions quickly resurfaced after Trump accused Beijing of failing to honor the terms of that initial de-escalation agreement.

In April, Trump dramatically increased tariffs on Chinese goods to 145%, prompting China to retaliate with its own 125% tariff hikes on American imports.

The upcoming London talks are seen as critical to potentially cooling the economic conflict, but both sides remain cautious amid lingering distrust and competitive pressure.
