The United States is currently reviewing Ukraine’s request for long-range Tomahawk missiles, which Kyiv intends to use in its defense against the ongoing Russian invasion, Vice President JD Vance confirmed on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked the US to authorize the sale of Tomahawk missiles to European nations, which would then transfer them to Ukraine.
“We are certainly reviewing a number of requests from European partners,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News Sunday, adding that the final decision rests with President Donald Trump.
The Tomahawk missiles have a range of approximately 2,500 kilometers, offering Ukraine a strategic advantage against Russian missile and drone attacks. However, providing such weapons could escalate tensions with Russia, which would likely view the move as provocative.
Trump has previously rejected similar requests from Ukraine, though he has expressed dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unwillingness to negotiate a peace agreement.
Vance also noted that the Russian offensive in Ukraine has stalled, showing no significant gains on the ground in recent months.
