A highly specialized U.S. military aircraft, often referred to as the “doomsday plane,” was spotted conducting flights over a key American airbase, as tensions escalate over a potential large-scale strike on Iran.

The aircraft, Boeing E-4B Nightwatch, was seen circling above Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska, headquarters of U.S. Strategic Command. According to flight tracking data, the plane took off at approximately 10:17 a.m. EST and remained in the air for multiple loops before landing back at the base.

The timing of the flight has drawn attention, coming just hours before a deadline set by Donald Trump for Iran to accept a proposed peace framework and reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. Failure to comply, Trump has warned, could result in widespread strikes targeting Iran’s infrastructure, including power plants and bridges.

Speaking from the White House, Trump reiterated the severity of the situation, stating that Iran could face devastating consequences within a very short timeframe if demands are not met.

The E-4B Nightwatch plays a critical role in U.S. national security. Designed during the Cold War, the aircraft serves as an airborne command center capable of sustaining government operations in the event of a nuclear conflict or national emergency. It ensures uninterrupted command, control, and communication for top officials, including the president and senior military leadership.

The United States maintains a fleet of four such aircraft, which regularly conduct readiness flights throughout the year. However, their activity is closely monitored during periods of heightened geopolitical tension, as deployments can signal increased military preparedness.

Equipped with advanced protection systems, the E-4B is built to withstand nuclear blasts, electromagnetic pulses, and cyber threats. It can accommodate up to 112 personnel and includes briefing rooms, conference areas, and operational workspaces spread across multiple decks, effectively functioning as a “flying Pentagon.”

Analysts note that while such flights are part of routine preparedness, their occurrence alongside escalating rhetoric and military posturing toward Iran underscores the seriousness of the current situation.
