The United States has begun easing sanctions on Syria in an effort to encourage new investments and improve the country’s economic outlook. The decision was officially confirmed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, which emphasized that the move aims to create more favorable conditions for Syria’s development.

This development comes shortly after a significant meeting held last week in Saudi Arabia between former U.S. President Donald Trump and Syria’s new leader.

Additionally, the U.S. Department of State has issued a special exemption under the Caesar Act—a 2020 law that had imposed strict sanctions on any cooperation with the former regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The official statement notes that this exemption “will allow foreign partners, allies, and the region to better leverage Syria’s potential,” with the intention of protecting civilians in a country ravaged by years of war.
