The head of American diplomacy made it clear on Thursday that the United States “strongly opposes” French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September.

“Step Backward for Peace Process”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized Macron’s decision as “unilateral” and one that, according to him, moves away from peace.

“This unilateral decision serves nothing but Hamas’s propaganda and constitutes a step backward for the peace process. It is a slap in the face of the victims of October 7, 2023,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio declared via a post on the X platform.

Meanwhile, in June, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee had stated that he no longer considers the creation of an independent Palestinian state a priority of American foreign policy.
