The United States Central Command announced that two U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyers have passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement posted on X, the command said the move aims to ensure that the vital waterway is free of naval mines allegedly placed by Iran. The two destroyers were identified as USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. and USS Michael Murphy.
CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper said in a statement: “Today, we began the process of establishing a new passage, and we will soon share this safe route with the maritime industry to encourage the free flow of trade.”
