The Trump administration has ordered U.S. embassies to suspend scheduling visa appointments for international students, as it prepares to expand social media screening for such applicants.
In a signed directive, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the suspension would last “until further guidance is issued.”
The order indicated that social media screening would be intensified for both student visas and exchange visitor visas, which would have “significant implications” for U.S. embassies and consulates around the world.
