Ukraine has expressed support for the United States’ proposal for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia following talks in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The agreement, which includes the resumption of military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, was announced after over eight hours of discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that the offer would be presented to Russia, and the ball is now in Moscow’s court.

What does the agreement include?

The 30-day ceasefire proposal is viewed as a positive step toward a fair peace for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the U.S. suggested a full temporary ceasefire, halting missile, drone, and bomb attacks not only in the Black Sea but along the entire front line. Ukraine has expressed readiness to accept the proposal, seeing it as a constructive move forward.

What else was agreed upon?

The U.S. will immediately lift the pause on intelligence exchanges and resume security assistance to Ukraine. Ukrainian officials confirmed that both the military aid and intelligence sharing have restarted.

Additionally, both parties agreed to quickly finalize a comprehensive agreement on developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources, a topic that had been delayed after previous tense meetings between Trump and Zelenskyy.

The two sides also emphasized the importance of humanitarian efforts as part of the peace process, particularly during the ceasefire. This includes the exchange of war prisoners, the release of civilian detainees, and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children.

What happens next?

The agreement is contingent upon simultaneous acceptance and implementation by Russia. U.S. officials stated they would present the proposal in Moscow. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is set to meet with his Russian counterpart in the coming days, and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff plans to visit Moscow this week for talks with President Putin.

President Trump mentioned he could speak with Putin this week, expressing hope for negotiations toward a long-term ceasefire in the coming days.

Following the discussions, Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that while it did not rule out contact with U.S. representatives, it did not offer further details on the matter.
