The United States has kept the door open for improving relations and resuming cooperation with the Government of Kosovo, but on the condition that the acting government commits to reducing tensions.

This was stated by a spokesperson from the U.S. Embassy in Pristina, asked whether the suspension of the planned strategic dialogue would be addressed in meetings with Kosovo leaders at the margins of the United Nations General Assembly session.

“As we have made clear to the acting government, the door is open for improving relations and resuming cooperation. However, this requires concrete steps from Acting Prime Minister Kurti to reduce tensions and advance our shared goal of strengthening peace and stability as a foundation for mutual economic prosperity. We will continue to assess the actions of the acting government,” the U.S. Embassy told Koha.

Following the U.S. decision to suspend the planned Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo, the acting government has not shown any sign of changing its course as requested by the United States.

So far, none of the meetings held, for which the government issued statements, have mentioned the Strategic Dialogue.

Moreover, meetings with representatives of the U.S. State Department have also been absent.

In a meeting with students in the U.S., Kurti stated that the White House suspended the planned Strategic Dialogue with Kosovo due to the closure of illegal Serbian structures in northern Kosovo, an area predominantly inhabited by Serbs.

“[The reason for the suspension of the planned Strategic Dialogue] is due to the rule of law in northern Kosovo, which turned out to be against the illegal Serbian structures, and here I cannot compromise. I cannot leave this problem to your generation. I believe my generation is the one that must resolve this,” Kurti said.
