U.S. Vice President JD Vance and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles have stepped in to ease tensions between President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk, following a heated public exchange on social media, according to The Wall Street Journal.

On June 6, Vance and Wiles reportedly held a phone call with Musk, encouraging him to restore his relationship with President Trump. This outreach came just one day after the two had exchanged harsh accusations online.

Sources say that Vance remained supportive of Trump during the conversation but refrained from directly criticizing Musk. The call was prompted by Musk’s public remarks on June 5, in which he stated that Trump wouldn’t have won the 2024 election without his support. Musk also criticized the administration’s import tariffs, fiscal policies, and even predicted a U.S. recession in the second half of 2025.

Trump responded fiercely, accusing Musk of mismanaging the DOGE project and calling him someone who had “gone completely insane.” He also threatened to cut government contracts with Musk’s companies, including SpaceX, and suggested the termination of federal subsidies.

However, the tone appears to be shifting. Musk later expressed regret over some of his comments, and in a recent interview on the Pod Force One podcast, Trump hinted that their relationship could be mended, saying:“I might forgive him.”
