Caracas, June 2 – The Venezuelan government has issued an official warning advising its citizens to avoid travel to the United States and urging those already living there to leave immediately, Rks News reports.

In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the U.S. is described as a “dangerous country where human rights do not exist for migrants.” The ministry called on Venezuelans to “protect their lives and those of their families and return home.”

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil emphasized that migrants of Latin American, African, or Venezuelan origin face particular danger in the U.S., citing the recent deportation of hundreds of migrants to a maximum-security prison in El Salvador, where, according to him, they are subjected to “inhumane conditions” and “psychological torture.”

The warning comes just days after the U.S. State Department issued a similar advisory, urging American citizens not to travel to Venezuela and to leave immediately due to the “serious risks” of arbitrary detention, violent crime, and civil unrest.

The U.S. currently has no functioning embassy or consulate in Venezuela, making consular assistance for American citizens in the country virtually impossible.
