The Venezuelan government has announced a $100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of exiled opposition presidential candidate, Edmundo González.

González fled the country in September after Venezuelan authorities issued an arrest warrant against him, accusing him of conspiracy and document forgery. He was granted political asylum in Spain.

González’s Pledge to Return

The opposition candidate had vowed to return to Venezuela before President Nicolás Maduro’s inauguration next Friday, alleging electoral fraud by the ruling government.

In response to the reward announcement, González stated he is traveling to Argentina as part of a Latin American tour. He plans to meet with Argentina’s President Javier Milei this Saturday to rally support against the Maduro administration.

Disputed Election Results

The government-linked National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Maduro the winner of the presidential election. However, it failed to provide a detailed vote count to substantiate its claim.

The opposition counters this by asserting that accredited election witnesses documented and released over 80% of the vote count, which they claim unequivocally shows González as the clear victor.
