Albanian Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, reported that in a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, he highlighted that the Alliance needs heightened vigilance in Southeast Europe, particularly concerning Kosovo.
“I emphasized the need to increase the Alliance’s vigilance in Southeast Europe, especially regarding Kosovo, as well as in the Adriatic-Ionian region, where Allies’ plans deserve to be updated with new strategic actions, in the face of multiple hybrid challenges,” Vengu said on Facebook.
Since the main topic of the meeting was increasing contributions and capacities of allied countries in light of negotiations for a sustainable peace between Russia and Ukraine, Vengu pointed out that, under the “new American moment,” there are high expectations for greater efforts from European countries to strengthen their military capabilities and take responsibility for the continent’s defense.
He expressed Albania’s willingness to translate the increase in defense funding into more operational capabilities, revitalization of the military industry, and infrastructure to support the modernization of Albanian forces and their functioning within the Alliance.
“In this context, the military industry is crucial for the production of weapons, ammunition, and necessary equipment,” Vengu added.
