Dozens of students and Serbian citizens gathered on Wednesday at the “Prince Lazar” monument in North Mitrovica to observe 15 minutes of silence in memory of the 15 victims who died in November 2024, after the roof collapsed at Novi Sad’s railway station.

Participants held signs reading:

Fear Among Students

Mirjana Perović, a student at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade, explained the low turnout, stating that many students are afraid to participate.

“They fear for their future employment, their parents’ salaries, and their overall security,” Perović said.

Tensions and Verbal Clashes

A passerby verbally attacked Perović, accusing her of supporting the opposition that, according to him, aims to destroy Serbia.

“Not for the opposition that wants to destroy the country, that is paid and wishes no good for you or us,” he said.

This sparked a heated exchange among attendees, leading to verbal confrontations.

Despite the tensions, the gathering, organized by students of the so-called University of Pristina in North Mitrovica, ended without any major incidents. KFOR and police forces monitored the event closely.
