In an exclusive interview with KOHË, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma stressed that the ultimate goal of normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia must be reciprocal recognition.

During his official visit to Kosovo, Richard Verma addressed the significance of the Ohrid Agreement, which he believes is crucial for both countries to honor their commitments. He emphasized that a fully normalized relationship would ultimately lead to reciprocal recognition between Kosovo and Serbia.

Verma also highlighted that the Ohrid Agreement’s terms are legally binding, with both countries pledging to uphold them. This agreement’s successful implementation is not only essential for bilateral relations but also for ensuring regional stability and prosperity.

“We hope for a level of normalization that will lead to reciprocal recognition. There’s a long way to go to reach that point, and that’s why the process, facilitated by the European Union, needs to be implemented properly,” Verma said.

Verma’s visit to Kosovo is part of his broader tour that also included Albania and Serbia.
