The defense teams of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders continue delivering their closing statements in the Hague Special Court trial.
Rodney Dixon, attorney for Kadri Veseli, stated that the Office of the Specialist Prosecutor is relying “simply on second-hand information, rumors, and unverified testimony.”
Over the first two days, prosecutors from the Specialist Prosecutor’s Office presented their closing arguments. A representative of the victims also delivered their closing statement yesterday. Since then, the defense lawyers of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi, and Jakup Krasniqi have begun their final arguments.
The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office has requested 45 years imprisonment for each former KLA leader.
Once all closing statements are delivered, expected by February 18, 2026, the case will move to the judges, who have three months to issue a verdict.
Thaçi, Veseli, Selimi, and Krasniqi have been in pre-trial detention at the Hague since November 2020, accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The prosecution alleges that they were aware or should have been aware of these crimes.
