The ruling party Lëvizja Vetëvendosje has formally submitted a request to the Constitutional Court of Kosovo seeking an evaluation of the constitutionality of the procedure for electing the President of Kosovo.
According to the request, the party has also asked the court to impose a temporary measure suspending the constitutional deadline related to the presidential election process, until the court issues its final judgment.
The development was confirmed by the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, who stated that the move aims to clarify the legal framework surrounding the stalled election process.
In her statement, Haxhiu said the request had already been submitted to the Constitutional Court and that the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has been officially informed about the step taken by the ruling party.
The request specifically asks the court to review whether the ongoing parliamentary procedure for electing the president complies with the Constitution, amid the political deadlock and the failure to secure the required quorum in parliament.
The Constitutional Court is now expected to examine the request and determine whether to suspend the constitutional deadline while deliberating on the case.
