The Deputy Leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albulena Haxhiu, revealed today, following a meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, that the possibility of holding snap parliamentary elections concurrently with the local elections was discussed. President Osmani had invited political party representatives to consult on setting the date for local elections.
According to Haxhiu, the idea of combining the two electoral processes was put forward during the meeting. “It was an idea to proceed and announce both the extraordinary [parliamentary] elections together with the local ones. Our position is in favor,” she stated. “For us, it is important that the Assembly is constituted, and the government is voted in, but today was the 18th session since the voting for the Commission began,” she added, referencing the ongoing deadlock in forming the government.
Haxhiu clarified that the proposal for holding both sets of elections simultaneously was her personal initiative, but she underscored that Vetëvendosje’s primary stance remains focused on the constitution of institutions as per the current political process.
“The idea was mine. I was very willing to discuss this as well. But it requires the constitution and dissolution of the Assembly, and for that, a political agreement is needed,” Haxhiu declared.
