Veton Elshani, Deputy Regional Commander of the Kosovo Police in the northern municipalities, reported that 154 police officers from the Serbian community are currently deployed in the region. He emphasized that public order remains stable and that there is regular, professional communication with municipal leaders and local officials.
Elshani highlighted the significant increase in Serbian police presence, noting that when he assumed office in April 2023, there were only four officers serving in the north. “Regardless of political changes or future decisions, we continue to perform our duties and enforce the law,” he stated.
He also stressed the quality of coordination with local authorities, particularly in North Mitrovica) and Leposaviq. Regular meetings take place between station commanders and municipal leaders to share information on public safety, traffic incidents, road conditions, and other administrative matters. Requests are then forwarded to relevant institutions, such as the Ministry of Internal Affairs, to improve infrastructure and safety.
Elshani noted that cooperation with local municipalities extends to administrative matters and joint projects, reflecting a stable and professional approach to policing in northern Kosovo.
