Vetëvendosje MP Arbëreshë Kryeziu has accused other parties of blocking the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly, stating firmly that VV will not change their proposed candidate for Speaker.

She reiterated that other parties are failing to recognize Vetëvendosje’s exclusive right to nominate their own candidate:

“Just as it happened weeks ago during the voting on the verification commission’s report — a process that was blocked for multiple sessions — the same is happening now. From the beginning, we have been ready to vote and move forward. We believe it’s important to break this blockade and proceed with the formation of the Assembly.”

Kryeziu said the opposition continues to reject participation in the vote, even though the Constitutional Court has ruled clearly that deputies must take part in the process.

“It’s deeply concerning that the very deputies responsible for helping establish the Assembly are now choosing to delay it.”

She dismissed the notion that VV should be pressured to change their nominee, currently Ms. Albulena Haxhiu, emphasizing that:

“This is not a matter of names. The issue isn’t with Ms. Haxhiu. The problem is that others do not want to move forward with forming the Assembly.”

Kryeziu added that PDK continues to expand its list of names they won’t vote for, showing unwillingness to cooperate.

She confirmed that VV stands by its internal decision:

“We have decided within our parliamentary group that the candidate for this position will be Ms. Haxhiu, and we expect this decision to be respected.”

Finally, she noted they are awaiting an opinion from the Constitutional Court regarding key matters, including the vote count from the diaspora, emphasizing that legal clarity is essential for the country’s institutional future.
