As the Vidovdan holiday approaches, preparations for its commemoration have already begun in Serbia, accompanied by nationalist slogans and the inflammatory rhetoric of Serbian clerics spreading both in the streets and on social media.
This was highlighted by security sciences professor Avni Islami, who described the atmosphere as artificially created with the intent to provoke and destabilize the region, according to KosovaPress.
In a post on his social media, Islami warned that this scenario has been repeated many times before, urging for caution and vigilance.
“Serbia has again started raising tensions in northern Kosovo. As June 28 approaches, preparations for Vidovdan celebrations have already begun — along with nationalist slogans and the rhetoric of Serbian clerics, visible in the streets and online. This is a staged atmosphere aimed at provocation and destabilization. We have seen this scenario many times before. Care and vigilance are necessary,” Islami wrote on Facebook, as reported by KosovaPress.
Vidovdan (St. Vitus Day), observed on June 28, holds great national and religious significance for the Serbian people and resonates across the Balkans due to its historic association with the Battle of Kosovo in 1389, where the Balkan forces led by Prince Lazar clashed with the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Murad I.
