Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior of Real Madrid could face one of the harshest penalties in Spanish football after receiving a red card in Friday’s match against Valencia.
Real Madrid’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Valencia was overshadowed by a controversy involving the team’s star, Vinicius Jr.
The Brazilian star was sent off with a red card after striking Valencia’s goalkeeper, Stole Dimitrievski, in the head, prompting a strong reaction from the goalkeeper. Vinicius Jr. also attempted to confront the referee after receiving the red card but was stopped by his teammates.
According to Article 104 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, Vinicius Jr.’s actions could result in a substantial suspension, ranging from 4 to 12 matches.
If the maximum penalty is applied, Vinicius Jr. could miss a significant portion of the season, returning only in the final matches.
