On the 28th anniversary of the 1997 student protests, President Vjosa Osmani paid tribute to the courage and determination of Kosovo’s students, who stood not only for their rights but for the dignity of an entire people.
“Students had the power of their voices, the courage of their hearts, and the belief that the future could not be built on fear, injustice, and terror,” Osmani said.
She recalled that the streets of Pristina, the closed auditoriums, and the squares filled with chants and banners marked a golden chapter of Kosovo’s resistance.
“The student protests of 1997 were the herald of freedom. Every step became an act of heroism, and every call for justice turned into a cry for liberty and independence,” Osmani emphasized.
Paying her respects to the generation that dared to confront injustice through peaceful resistance, Osmani concluded:
“Students of ’97 taught us that freedom is not given but won, and the future is not awaited but built.”
